Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The attorney for PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (BNII), Hotman Paris Hutapea, stated that he had advised Maybank to replace the funds belonging to Winda Lunardi and his missing mother worth Rp 22 billion in their savings accounts.
According to Hotman, the reimbursement of funds is still being carried out in the middle of an ongoing legal process.
This well-known lawyer even said that Maybank had total assets of Rp. 175 trillion, so in good faith, he advised Maybank to make payments even though there were a number of irregularities he found.
Because of that, he invited Herman Lunardi and Winda to meet him at Johny’s Coffee Shop to solve this case.
“Tell Winda and her father to go to Johny’s coffee, Maybank’s assets are Rp. 175 trillion, Rp. 22 billion, small money, she [Maybank] want to pay as long as with win-win solution, “said Hotman Paris, in his statement as broadcast by Kompas TV, Thursday night (13/11/2020).
“In front of the public throughout Indonesia, Maybank is willing to pay even if there is such a serious irregularity,” he added.
On the same occasion, Professor of Criminal Law, Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University, Eddy OS Hiariej shared the same opinion, he considered that banks should maintain customer trust, therefore, compensation for losses must be realized immediately while the legal process is running.
“Remember that the banking business is a business of trust. What Bang Hotman said was immediately realized, immediately paid [kerugian Rp 22 miliar], but the legal process is still ongoing, “said Eddy.
For information, the total assets of Maybank Indonesia as of September 2020 were recorded at Rp. 177.33 trillion, up from December 2019 of Rp. 169.08 trillion.
As for the financial statements, the company’s equity as of September 2020 reached IDR 26.64 trillion from December 2019, which was IDR 26.68 trillion.
This case began when an e-sports athlete Elevator “Earl” Lunardi report to the Criminal Investigation Agency (Criminal Investigation Unit) Polri regarding his and his mother’s savings, Flolette, worth Rp. 20 billion that disappeared. The amount of funds was then stated by Maybank’s attorney, Hotman Paris, namely Rp. 22 billion.
Director of Special Economic Crimes Criminal Investigation Unit Police, Brigadier General Helmets Santika stated saying the matter entered into the investigation process.
It also allowed, the police have set the suspect in the name of A branch head Cipulir Maybank as a suspect who is currently being temporarily detained by investigators at the Detention Center at the District Prosecutor’s Office Tangerang.
