Good news for the ex-player’s family ajax Amsterdam Abdelhak Nouri. Ajax has officially paid compensation for Nouri’s permanent brain injury.
Nouri fell on the pitch while defending Ajax Amsterdam in a friendly against Werder Bremen in 2017. The incident left him with severe and permanent brain damage, caused by a lack of oxygen supply.
This condition made Appie unable to play football again for good. In 2020, there was news that Nouri had started to rise from his coma.
However, until now there have been no recent developments regarding the condition of the player who is now 24 years old. Ajax had regularly paid Nouri’s salary for three years before his contract was terminated in March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Ajax still shows their care for the former academy student. Two years later, Ajax reached an agreement with the Nouri family regarding compensation for the incident.
Ajax is said to be willing to pay 7.85 million euros or around Rp. 127 billion to the Nouri family. Ajax admits that Nouri’s incident was due to medical failures on the pitch and negligence of the effects of brain damage.
“We are all aware that the suffering of Abdelhak and his beloved family has not ended. His condition is still sad, Ajax feels the same way,” said the general manager of Ajax. Edwin van der Sar as quoted ESPN.
“We all really appreciate the way his family takes care of Abdelhak day and night, with love and care. I am always welcomed by his family when I visit there,” he continued.
“That also applies to all of our colleagues at Ajax and we really appreciate it.”
