#Idoenietmee, #ikdoewelmee, do followers allow themselves to be influenced?

A few months ago, Famke Louise participated in a government campaign to ask young people to comply with the rules. Now she says she has changed her mind. According to Folkvord, the government could have imagined that could have happened. “You can pay influencers to take a position, but the problem is that that opinion can change.”

He suspects that some of the rebellious celebrities are also shocked by the angry reactions they have received. Some quickly made it clear that the hashtag #ikdoenietmeermee was not an incentive to ignore all the rules. And Bizzey and Yes-R, among others, have their # ikdoenietmeermee video already removed.

“Those influencers may also learn something from this”, says Folkvord. “And it could even be that many young people are actually going to stick to the rules, now that they see all those angry reactions.”

The fact that many people – not just young people – do not fully understand some corona rules, may also be due to confusion about the sometimes inconsistent measures, as Bas van den Putte, professor of health communication at the University of Amsterdam also knows. “I spoke to someone who said: ‘If I’m going to play basketball, you will get very close together in the field, but you have to keep your distance again.”

According to Van den Putte, it is inevitable that such discrepancies will arise. “We are coming out of a lockdown, but letting go of everything in one go is dangerous. And doing nothing is also impossible, for the economy and social life. So you are going to let go of measures one by one.”

And then one is allowed and the other is not, he says. “That is very difficult to explain, but you have to try.” How? Van den Putte does have a tip: “Ask young people themselves what appeals to them. What would be reasons for them to observe the rules.”
