Idle at Twitter lead due to uncertainty about takeover by Musk | NOW

Several senior employees have announced their departure from social media platform Twitter. They are leaving due to the uncertainty surrounding the intended acquisition of the company by billionaire Elon Musk. It is still unknown whether and when the takeover of Twitter, which involves an amount of EUR 42 billion, will go ahead.

Ilya Brown, vice president of the product management division, and Katrina Lane, who serves a similar role at Twitter Service, are leaving the company. Max Schmeiser, the head of data sciences, is also drawing his conclusions, the company confirmed.

Just a week ago, Twitter threw its organization on the shovel. Two top executives were fired as a result. Twitter has also made budget cuts. Recruitment of new staff is currently frozen. The company says it has no layoffs planned. CEO Parag Agrawal did tell employees in an email that the company is facing an efficiency boost.

Musk previously said he would only allow the acquisition of the company to go through if the social media platform can substantiate its claims about the share of fake accounts on the messaging service. Until there is more clarity about this, the deal is on hold.

Documents released Tuesday showed that Musk had discussed a takeover with the company’s board two weeks before announcing that he had taken a 9.2 percent stake in Twitter. At that time, there would also have been talk of joining the board of the company.
