IDI Aceh Reminds the High Potential of Covid-19 Transmission from Family Clusters

Banda Aceh, Beritasatu.com – Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Aceh asked the public to be more disciplined in implementing health protocols in the family environment, given the high rate of spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia from family cluster. In Aceh itself, cases of Covid-19 infection in children are quite high and the majority of transmission is from family clusters.

“In Indonesia, the most important distribution, the highest, is the family cluster,” said the Chair of the Aceh Regional IDI, Dr Safrizal Rahman in Banda Aceh, Friday (2/7/2021).

He explained that the public needs to pay attention to prevent the creation of family clusters against Covid-19 transmission. The trick is to provide understanding so that family members reduce mobility.

However, if there are family members who still have to undergo mobility due to economic and educational activities, they must do so with strict health protocols.

“After returning home, they must carry out screening or cleaning so as not to carry the virus that is attached to their body from outside into the house,” he said.

Furthermore, said Safrizal, for those whose activities are in places that have the potential to transmit or contract Covid-19, it is better to keep distance even from their family members.

Especially now, according to him, cases of Covid-19 infection to children in Aceh are quite high and the majority of transmission is from family clusters.

Although generally child patients with corona virus infection are asymptomatic so they must self-isolate, but there are also those who have symptoms and must receive medical treatment.

He added that from several cases of infection in children being monitored, there was a new phenomenon that Covid-19 infection in children was much longer lasting than adult patients. Positive conditions of pediatric patients tend to last longer even without symptoms.

“There was an incident that this child was positive for Covid and lasted for a long time, even though there were no symptoms. When the examination was carried out repeatedly, it remained positive even for a month, a month and a half, it was still positive,” he said

“But this is an example that we have noticed from several cases, of course it needs more research to prove it,” he said again.

However, he said, in theory, if someone is positive for Covid-19 but without symptoms, then after 14 days of self-isolation, they will not infect other people.

“So what we want to know is the condition of the child who is still positive, lasts a long time, although without symptoms, is still able not to infect others,” said Safrizal.

“Because this is one of the things that can be potentially dangerous, if they are positive, without symptoms, then they wander around and infect other people, this is what we are worried about,” he said again.
