Israeli Soldiers Now Access Medication with Digital Prescriptions
Tel Aviv, Israel – Obtaining prescription medication just got easier for Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) personnel. The IDF and its Medical Corps announced a groundbreaking initiative allowing soldiers and reservists to fill prescriptions digitally at Super-Pharm pharmacies across the country.
This new system eliminates the need for physical prescriptions, streamlining the process for busy service members. Instead, soldiers simply receive a digital prescription through the “MediTik” app, directly connected to Super-Pharm’s network, after a doctor’s visit.
“We set out with the aim of expanding the pharmacy service in the IDF in order to make it accessible to every soldier to receive medication,” said Pharmacy section head Major Juad Salama.
He emphasized the impact of the new system, stating, “The branches of the civilian companies are spread all over the country so that a fighter on the frontlines will not have to travel hours to the clinic.”
Convenience with Safeguards
While this digital advancement significantly improves accessibility, certain exceptions remain.
Narcotic medications and those treating Attention-Deficit Disorders, such as Concerta and Atent, will still require traditional physical prescriptions due to stringent regulations.
Additionally, urgent cases or prescriptions from civilian healthcare providers, like those obtained in emergency rooms, can be filled with standard physical prescriptions.
A Digital Healthcare Revolution
This initiative is part of a larger effort by the IDF’s Medical Corps to modernize and digitalize healthcare services. The deputy head of the IDF’s Physician Services branch highlighted this progress,
"Since the beginning of the war, we have expanded the deployment of the field of pharmacy in the army. In the past, soldiers had to come physically at every stage of the process. From now on, everything will be simpler, digital … and above all, more accessible.”
The IDF’s Medical Corps is actively exploring partnerships with other pharmacy chains to further expand access to digital prescriptions for its personnel.
