Before a new military operation in Khan Yunis, the Israeli army called on residents of a northern district to leave the area immediately. They should go to a humanitarian zone whose borders have been redrawn, the army told people via text message, phone call, Arabic-language media reports and leaflets. Khan Yunis is located in the southern Gaza Strip.
Israel accuses the terrorist organization Hamas of abusing the humanitarian zone for “terrorist activities and rocket attacks on the State of Israel.” The borders of the humanitarian zone are therefore being adjusted. This is being done on the basis of precise intelligence information according to which the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas has embedded its infrastructure in the area.
The aim of the warnings is to prevent harm to civilians, the army said in a statement.
Airstrike on Hamas headquarters in a school
According to Palestinian sources, dozens of people were killed in an Israeli air strike on a school building in the city of Gaza on Saturday. A spokesman for the Hamas-controlled Palestinian civil defense reported at least 93 deaths in the building used as a refugee shelter.
