Identifying Vandals Responsible for Damaging El Paso’s Iconic Star Mountain: Help Solve the Crime Today!

Authorities suspect at least two people are responsible for the act of vandalism that damaged El Paso’s iconic Star Mountain. Crime Stoppers of El Paso and the El Paso Police Department (EPPD) are asking for help in identifying the pair of vandals through the Crime of the Week program.

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 11:04 p.m., two people were captured by the Star on the Mountain security cameras. The two men are believed to be responsible for damaging the Star by breaking the light bulbs and damaging the wires.

The estimated damage is at least $10,000. Security cameras captured images of the couple and investigators are sure someone knows their identity. They both appear to be in their twenties, have an average build, and are both wearing shorts.

Last week eight people were arrested, seven of them Fort Bliss residents, for trespassing on the land where Estrella de la Montaña is located, access to which is restricted.

Anyone with information on the identity of these men who vandalized the iconic Star on the Mountain is asked to immediately call Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 566-8477 (TIPS) or online: www.cselpaso.org. You will remain anonymous, and if your information leads to an arrest, you may qualify for a cash reward. Crime Stoppers of El Paso, Inc. is a non-profit organization that brings together the community, law enforcement and the media to solve crimes.
