Young Styrian artists should be able to jump over the “big pond” easier. This was announced by the Cultural Councilor Christopher Drexler (ÖVP) after a trip with a Styrian delegation to New York. Details are to follow, concepts are to be examined.

Drexler had been in New York with the delegation of artists, cultural workers and journalists since Tuesday to promote the exchange among other things.
Cooperation with “Flux Factory” considered
A cooperation with the local studio house “Flux Factory” is realistic, said Drexler. “If we don’t get hold of it, someone else will do it,” Drexler was convinced after visiting the studio house and artist collective “Flux Factory” in the New York borough of Queens. 40 artists from all over the world can realize their visions every year in the factory hall, which dates back to the 1920s. Those who convince the jury can work at one of the seven shared workplaces for several months. There are also 16 studios.
“Get something up and running until next year”
In the context of an exhibition with works by Günter Brus and young Styrian artists in the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, which had been planned for some time, there was a conversation with the director Maya Suess, Drexler said. “I can well imagine that we could get something going by next year,” said the regional councilor.
Details have not yet been announced. Now one wants to examine whether the concept of a scholarship program, as it already exists in Styria for several European cities, could not also be considered for the “Flux Factory”. Most recently, the state’s cultural department concluded an annual cooperation with the Wiels Museum in Brussels. The “next step” could then be New York from 2021.
