From February 3 to 5, the 24th International Ice Sculpture Festival will take place in Jelgava. Jelgava the regional tourism center (JRTC) invites festival visitors not only to visit the area of the event, but also to combine visiting the festival with the opportunity to see the city’s most popular tourist attractions. JRTC’s recommendations will be useful for both individual travelers and families with children.

JRTC invites you to familiarize yourself with the city’s latest offer – Jelgava Houses of the old town, Life and craft farms, as well as the new interactive exposition Jelgava Sv. In the tower of the Trinity Church. In each of the objects, history is illuminated in its own way, allowing you to experience and see the ancient wooden architecture of Jelgava, get to know the history of Jelgava and Trinity Church, virtually try on ancient wedding dresses, as well as see how the folk costume of Zemgale is made. Visitors will also be welcomed by G. Elias Jelgava Museum of History and Art, Jelgava Palace Museum and the tombs of the Dukes of Kurzeme.
City entrepreneurs, service providers and representatives of attractions have developed special offers for guests on the days of the festival, for example, Ā. in the Alunana Memorial Museum and Latvian in the Jelgava exposition of the railway museum, there will be an opportunity to participate in creative workshops at certain times. Sweets are cordially invited to the Caramel workshop, where you can watch demonstrations of caramel making, while the “Viedi” brewery will host open tours. Fans of active recreation are invited to indulge in the joy of skating and enjoy the magic of the festival at the ice skating rink of the Post Island, which is located on the territory of the event.
Gourmets will be delighted by Jelgava’s special dishes – the main course “Hercoga bura” and the sweet “Charlotte’s kiss”, which will be available on the days of the festival in the bistro “Silva” and the tavern “Istaba”. An “Ice Cocktail” was made especially for the Ice Sculpture Festival, which will be offered by “Jelgava Hedgehog in the Mist”, while a special three-course meal will be available at the “Krekli” rest area.
It will be possible to experience unprecedented offers in the “Zelt” city residence, where visitors will be surprised by an ice cocktail bar and a demonstration by a virtuoso bartender.
This year, the International Ice Sculpture Festival will take place in three places: Jānis Čakste boulevard, Post Island and open-air concert hall “Mītava”. The works of art will be created by a total of 32 professional sculptors from 12 countries, revealing in ice a unique perspective on the ancient deities and their importance in different cultures. Within the framework of the festival, in less than a week, 45 competition sculptures will be created, and in total more than 60 ice objects will be on display.
