«Iddu», the film about Messina Denaro shown in Castelvetrano: the city responds, 480 tickets sold over the three screening sessions

The most surprising fact was that there were no posters displayed in the town and in front of the Selinus theater in Castelvetrano but, apart from this detail, the film “Iddu” by Antonio Piazza and Fabio Grassadonia on Matteo Messina Denaro many fellow citizens of the world. leaders who chose to watch today in their own town.
The only three screenings organized by the Municipality were after Salvatore Vaccarino refused to show the film in his Marconi cinema (the only one in the city), which caused the Selinus theater to be filled , will be turned into a cinema for the event.

The tickets sold over the three movements were 480 and, already starting from 4 pm, the audience of the theater was full of citizens. Few young people in the room, many teachers and ordinary people.

Also present at the first screening was the city councilor Rosalia Ventimiglia: «I admit that I did not like it – she says – because, to some extent, it gives a legend to the figure of Matteo Messina Denaro. However, one thing is certain, and that is that the exile has led a terrible life. Show it to the students? Yes, but only after being aware of the history of the epistolary relationship between Messina Denaro and Antonio Vaccarino”.

The deputy head of Trapani Luciano Zanta Platamone also reached the second round of screening and the regional deputy head Antonello Cracolici, president of the regional anti-mafia commission, is expected for the final screening. “Today must be a moment of break with the past – said the mayor Giovanni Lentini who was present in the theater – let’s deal with this story and make a point to move on forward. Naturally, the statue of Matteo Messina Denaro should not be mythologized, but it should be removed from the memory of our city.”

Last October 10, the day the film was released in Italian cinemas, Salvatore Vaccarino’s docufilm “Falcone and Borsellino, the fire of memory” was shown in his cinema (a few tens of meters from Selinus theatre), but in the theater there were only 70 people. The film «Iddu» will be recorded from October 24 at the Olimpia cinema in Campobello di Mazara, the town where the mafia leader spent the last period of his hiding.
