The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) reported that together with IDB Invest it achieved a record nearly $23.4 billion in new financing approvals, commitments and mobilizations of the private sector, thus exceeding the initial estimates previously reported on financial assistance to Latin America and the Caribbean in 2021.
In a statement, the IDB said that the figure reflects additional and updated numbers, which includes commitments and mobilizations, associations, and donations to Haiti; In addition, the new record includes IDB Invest’s mobilization of more private funds in 2021 for almost 3 billion dollars, the largest amount in any other year in its history.
He added that the total also includes record, or near-record, levels of IDB financing approvals in priority areas for the sustainable and inclusive growth and recovery of the region, including health and the response to covid-19, climate change, supply chains and digitalization.
Additionally, the bank added, the highlights of the IDB financing include a record amount for projects related to climate change ($4.5 billion) and a record level of funding to strengthen regional supply chains ($2.3 billion).
