Jakarta, NU Online

The acceleration of Covid-19 vaccination for children aged 12-17 years has begun. In accordance with the recommendation of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI), the vaccination process uses an inactivated vaccine made by Sinovac which has obtained a permit from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) and has been clinically tested in the first and second phases.

“This child’s vaccination has been recommended by IDAI and it is safe,” said one member of DKI Jakarta IDAI, Dr. Ined Wan Nedra to NU Online, Monday (5/7).

Ined said IDAI strongly encourages the government to implement Covid-19 vaccinations for children. Especially after BPOM gave permission to use the Sinovac vaccine for children aged 12-17 years, because it could suppress Covid-19 cases, especially among children.

“In addition to vaccines for adults, vaccination of children is also very useful in critical times like today,” he said.

He informed that the vaccination process can be carried out at health service centers or educational institutions that have coordinated with the local health office to facilitate the monitoring process.

“If you want to go to the clinic, of course you have to register first to minimize queues that can cause crowds,” explained this Pediatrician.

He explained that the mechanism of vaccination and the dose given between adults and children 12-17 years old were the same. By doing screening, implementation and observation. The dose and number of injections of Sinovac vaccine was carried out 2 times with a range of injections of 14 days (0.5 ml per dose).

“Before the vaccine, we conduct a review first, because children need to be careful. For adults and children, the doses are the same,” explained the doctor who graduated from the University of Indonesia.

The Director of the Asshomadiyah Clinic said, amid the surge in daily Covid-19 cases, the proportion of positive Covid-19 cases in children aged 0-18 years was 12.5 percent. This means that 1 in 8 positive cases of Covid-19 are children. While, case fatality rate The Covid-19 (death rate) in children in Indonesia is the highest in the world at 3-5 percent.
