Idaho to send state police to reinforce border security in Arizona – Telemundo Phoenix / Tucson

BOISE, Idaho – Five Idaho state troopers will travel to Arizona for 21 days to help with border security, Governor Brad Little said Thursday.

The Republican governor reported that agents will begin a 21-day mission Tuesday to assist Arizona police officers with intelligence gathering and investigative work to prevent illicit drugs from crossing the border.

“The crisis on the US-Mexico border and the alarming increase in illegal drug activity are direct results of the failed policies of the Biden-Harris administration that harm the people of Idaho,” Little said in a statement.

Organizations such as LUPE, Arise, United Voices, Texas Rising and No Border Wall Coalition were present at an informational forum where they expressed their rejection of Abbott and Trump’s visit to the border.

Republican governors. Doug Ducey of Arizona and Greg Abbott of Texas sent a letter to other governors last month asking for help with law enforcement personnel.

“On behalf of Texas and Arizona, we respectfully but urgently request that you send all available law enforcement resources to the border in defense of our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the two governors wrote.

Immigration remains a lively issue in the Republican Party. On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump and a group of about two dozen Republican members of Congress toured the border in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley, criticizing President Joe Biden’s handling of the border.

Residents in the border area of Sunland Park, New Mexico, say there has been an increase in the number of migrants, including families, who use the residences of this community to hide and seek to outwit agents with the United States Border Patrol .

Four other states with Republican governors are also taking similar action. Florida will send 50 law enforcement officers. South Dakota will send 50 National Guardsmen following a $ 1 million donation from a wealthy Republican donor to pay for the deployment. Iowa is dispatching 30 state police officers on a two-week deployment to Texas, and Nebraska is dispatching 25 state patrol officers for up to 16 days.

“Idaho will continue to assess our resources and the needs of the border states to determine if we can do even more to help in the fight to protect Americans against inaction by Biden-Harris,” Little said.

In Arizona, Idaho police officers will be delegates and act under the same authority as Arizona state police officers.
