On February 1, 1991, Adrian Carmack, John Carmack, Tom Hall and John Romero founded id Software in Shreveport, Louisiana, before moving to Texas. id initially made a name for itself via a series of platform games (Commander Keen) but it was with Wolfenstein 3D then Doom that they established themselves as the pillars of a genre, the First Person Shooter.
30 years later, none of its historic founders are still working in the studio and the studio is now owned by Microsoft. That doesn’t stop id from continuing to release great FPS like Doom Eternal in 2020. Happy Birthday! By the way, we don’t say “Aille-Di”. It is simply “idde”.
