ID.BUZZ taxi: Roar is first

The Volkswagen ID.BUZZ has received a warm reception in the media, and is already being hailed by many as a new cult car from VW.

In particular, the design has been praised to the skies. The latest electric model from VW is expected to be a good fit as a taxi – and the first ones are already in operation.

Rower Stene Granlund at Jessheim has one of them. He does not sit and wait for ID.BUZZ to be extended or get more seats, as many colleagues do. The Volkswagen enthusiast ordered his new taxi early.

Loyal customer

– Let me know as soon as it opens for booking – I’ll have one like this, was the message from the taxi owner in lower Romerike.

He grew up surrounded by VW models, so his enthusiasm is well rooted. Only “disturbed” by the occasional Opel or Ford, there have therefore been many VW models on the yard at Roar.

At Erik Arnesen, he has bought Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen for 35 years, five Mercedes and nine VWs. His new ID.BUZZ is car number 14 from the dealership, so we’re talking loyal customer here!

Come November 18

– I heard ID.BUZZ after a long time. With dimensions that were largely the same as today’s fossil model, I saw that this is a car that would suit well as a taxi, so I ordered as soon as the sale was released. The first response was that I could have a car produced with factory specifications in week 28 – or with my own specifications via the dealer in week 40. Then transport and delivery come a little later.

The next message was that I could get it in week 43 – but then a new decision was made that no such car should be delivered before week 46. So, after foiling and fitting taxi equipment, I got the car ready for operation on 18 November – and then it has gone as a taxi, says Roar Stene Granlund to Broom.

Avoid the weight tax

– How did it go?

– It is a very nice car for its use, with a lot of sensible equipment. Operation of the side doors at the push of a button is a particularly important point here. Used manually, such doors get a hard time from the customers, who like to use a lot of force in the process.

– Otherwise, it has most of it. In total, the car cost NOK 595,000, of which NOK 120,000 is extra equipment such as light package, towbar, ambient lighting and driver assistance package plus much more. In return, I dropped the weight tax that came from New Year’s, and which would have been noticeable for a car that weighs close to 2.5 tonnes, he says further.

Roar’s car is a five-seater with a luggage compartment of just over 1,000 litres.

The youth turns to it

– It fits well as a taxi. Customers are not least impressed by the space in the back, it’s really spacious here. The rear seat can be pushed 15 centimeters lengthwise, and many people comment on the adjustable backrest!

– Driving to school with this car is pure joy – for this group the car is “in” so it will last. This is easy to see otherwise too, the ID.BUZZ is a car that young people in particular turn to, says Roar.

Few people in the world drive the same taxi as Erlend

Charge a little extra

The car has an electric motor with an output of up to 204 horsepower and enough traction to provide good performance. Official range in mixed driving is 418 kilometers.

– This is probably only close to achievable on a glorious summer day, and normally gives just over 30 miles of range. It is generally sufficient for my use.

– Can you manage the shift without charging?

– No, I mostly charge a little extra every day – and the charging efficiency is good. When I have to charge outside, my experience is that the Circle K chargers work very well, he states.

Luxury experience

– Just joy and fun?

– Yes, mostly – the car also gives the driver a good everyday life. If I have to put my finger on something, it is that a heat pump would have been good. I also have a Hyundai Ioniq 5 as a taxi. It has such equipment, and thus much lower standby consumption, says Roar.

Many electric cars now have a heat pump. But on ID.BUZZ it is not available at the start.

Incidentally, Roar has extensive experience with electric cars as taxis:

– I started with a Nissan Leaf of the new generation in 2018. This is a simple and cheap car, and a true money box. As easy to drive as few, and the ideal number two car. Switching to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was a pure luxury experience, but then the price is another too, concludes Roar Stene Granlund.

Should have been launched in Norway – then it was completely silent
