ICW: Instead, the Government Makes Corruption Eradication Gloomy Page all

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia Corruption Watch criticized the statement President Joko Widodo who said the government never messed with efforts corruption Eradication.

The statement was made by Jokowi when reading an internal speech MPR Annual Session at the Parliament Complex, Friday (14/8/2020).

Researcher ICW Kurnia Ramadhana said he was surprised by Jokowi’s statement.

“ICW is quite stunned and shocked to hear President Joko Widodo’s state speech at the DPR which said that ‘the government has never played games with efforts to eradicate corruption’,” said ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana, Friday.

Kurnia assessed that since the beginning of his administration, Jokowi has never taken sides with the corruption eradication sector.

On the other hand, ICW is of the view that the government is actually causing the corruption eradication agenda to decline.

“It is important for ICW to remind him that one of the parties that creates a grim situation in eradicating corruption is the government itself,” said Kurnia.

Kurnia also revealed a number of moments that showed the Government was not serious about eradicating corruption.

Starting from the election of the KPK chairman who was deemed problematic, granting clemency to corruptors, unclear completion of the hard water sprinkling case to Novel Baswedan, to revising the KPK Law.

“The narrative of the promises made by the President regarding the KPK Perppu is in fact just nonsense,” said Kurnia.

Previously, President Joko Widodo emphasized that in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic, all components of the country must work quickly and flexibly to overcome the various impacts that arise.

Nevertheless, Jokowi emphasized that fast and flexible work does not mean putting aside efforts to eradicate corruption.

“The government has never played games with efforts to eradicate corruption,” said Jokowi deeply Annual Conference MPR, Friday (14/8/2020).

Jokowi emphasized that the government continues to make efforts to prevent corruption. These efforts are made through simple, transparent and efficient governance.

“The law must be enforced indiscriminately,” he said.
