iCulture’s favorite products of 2021: the iMac with M1 chip

During the last week of the year, it is time for iCulture to look back at the past year one last time. Which 2021 Apple Products are our favorite and why? Yesterday we discussed why the MacBook Pro 2021 a 2021 favorite is. Today another Mac is discussed: the iMac met M1-chip.

Our 2021 favorites: the iMac with M1 chip

Although Apple has regularly released the MacBooks updated with new designs and chips, the iMac often trailed behind. The desktop that put Apple back on the map in 1998 got its last redesign in 2012. Over the years, screen resolutions were improved and internal components replaced with faster ones, but that was it.

In April 2021 it was finally time: the iMac has a new design. And what kind! The all-in-one desktop has a thin, flat housing, a lightning-fast M1 chip, a screen that you say to you and is also available in all kinds of trendy colors. The iMac is back with a vengeance.

What’s so good?

First of all, we are happy that Apple is giving some love to the iMac. It may not be the most popular Mac more, but there is definitely still a target audience for it. In addition, it was also a bit strange that Apple still sold such a relatively old design from the previous generation as new. If you go in depth with this new iMac with M1 chip, you will come across points for improvement on all sides.

What strikes me when I talk about the iMac with friends or family is that I can finally recommend it again.

As far as we are concerned, the design has been improved on all sides. Nice and thin, but without the disadvantages that can come with it. For example, the 4.5K screen is excellently readable and bright enough under all circumstances. Thanks to the M1 chip, the iMac also performs like a charm and the built-in fan is hardly used. The webcam is also finally able to make a good impression during online meetings. Previous iMacs didn’t exactly have a webcam to write home about.

What strikes me when I talk about the iMac with friends or family is that I can finally recommend it again. For a long time it came down to me being someone a iMac would advise, but would rather see someone have a MacBook bought with possibly an extra display. Now that the iMac has been completely modernized, I think it’s right at the top for someone who wants an all-in-one desktop.

Why is this our 2021 favorite?

Apple is busy transitioning from Intel processors to Apple Silicon-potato chips. Now that the iMac has taken the first step in this direction, Apple’s vision for the future of the Mac is becoming clearer. 2021 is the year in which the iMac is finally really recommended again. Personally, I thought the iMac with M1 chip was one of the best announcements from Apple in 2021. The Mac is backshall we say.

What could be better?

As with all products, the 2021 iMac also has some areas for improvement. For example, we regret that Apple has chosen to only make certain colors available for the more expensive versions of the iMac with a boosted processor. Speaking of colours: why is there no gray variant? For those who do not want flashy colours, silver is the only alternative. Furthermore, the Ethernet connection in the power adapter and the renewed keyboard are Touch IDsensor also only included with more expensive versions. And that while Touch ID has been around for years and it is no longer an expensive technique.

Furthermore, this iMac has only been released in a 24-inch (actually 23.5-inch) version. Would you like a replacement for your 27-inch iMac with a similar large size? Then you will have to wait a little longer. We hope that Apple with the next version also takes a closer look at the ergonomics, especially if there is also a larger model. Like its predecessor, the screen is not adjustable in height, but we would have liked to have seen that.
