ICT-Vocational Training Switzerland creates a federal patent in AI

ICT-Vocational Training Switzerland is working with Huawei to develop a federal diploma in the field of artificial intelligence. The first examination is planned for 2026.

ICT-Vocational Training Switzerland is partnering with Huawei to launch an AI training project. This is a federal higher vocational training diploma in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), the organization reports. The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) approved the launch of the project in August 2024. The first students are expected to graduate in 2026.
There is a growing demand for specialists in the field of artificial intelligence because it is a key technology for Switzerland, the press release adds. Surveys conducted among companies and public administration have shown that a federal diploma is desired.

Practice-oriented training

An analysis of the professional field showed that a practice-oriented profile at the interface between business and IT was necessary. The new profile created in the field of AI product management therefore combines methodological skills, basic technical knowledge as well as in-depth knowledge and an overview of AI technologies. The clarifications carried out to date argue in favour of the development of a federal certificate. “By offering a federal title controlled by an independent body, we want to bring serenity to the continuing education market, which is currently flooded with non-formal offers,” explains Serge Frech, Director of ICT-Vocational Training Switzerland.

Partnership with Huawei

The organization is collaborating on the development of the new degree with representatives from the economy and public administration, including Huawei. The Chinese ICT provider is pursuing a clear AI strategy, which extends from basic research to talent promotion and the solution portfolio.

As part of its comprehensive talent development program in digital intelligence, Huawei is investing in efficient and accelerated training and development in this area. “We are pleased to be able to count on Huawei’s expertise for this project. This partnership will strengthen international career opportunities for future graduates,” explains Dietmar Eglseder, Head of Higher Vocational Education and Training at ICT-Vocational Training Switzerland.
