The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (ICP) and the Music Recordings Unit of its Editorial announced the creation of the playlist ¡Feliz Navidad! on the Spotify platform. The list of ten songs, which are part of the ICP’s catalog of recordings, was published as a gift to the people of Puerto Rico and the followers of the institution’s accounts during the festive season.
“Typical music has always been the focus of every Christmas celebration in Puerto Rico. It also serves as the link that unites us with our compatriots abroad and fills us with nostalgia for our folk traditions. It is from that north that the Recording Unit of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture has taken on the task of selecting a collection of Christmas themes to give to Puerto Ricans, and lovers of our music, this Christmas “explained Maria Del Mar Caragol, director of the ICP Publications and Recordings Program.
The varied musical selection of 10 classics from the Puerto Rican songbook can be heard through the “ICP Recordings” profile on the Spotify digital platform. The list brings together compositions from the mid-20th century along with contemporary pieces, performed by artists such as Conjunto Mapeyé, Chuito el de Bayamón, “Ramito” Morales Matos, among others.

“We want new generations and people in all parts of the world to discover the magic of our Christmas music and those who already know, can celebrate and enjoy it by listening to it this season in an easy and accessible way. The list includes everything from Puerto Rican bonuses to plenas and typical music. It is a musical delight that will transport us to Christmas in the country and will make us remember our traditional parties, ”said Carlos Ruiz Cortés, executive director of the ICP.
With this playlist, the aim is to inspire the listener to further explore the rest of their music catalog, which was successfully digitized from 2014, residing since 2018, in an accessible and free way, on the streaming platforms iTunes and Spotify. Other ICP musical recordings can be purchased in CD format at the Cultural Stores of Old San Juan and Utuado.
