Connery was born on August 25, 1930 in Edinburugh, Scotland. He is the son of a truck driver and a cleaning lady. He was interested in film from an early age and was the first to play the role of spy James Bond in the movie Dr. No. He ended up doing that for six additional Bond films and is therefore seen as one of the most iconic actors to take on the role of 007.
But even after his Bond era he played in numerous films. He has appeared in “The Hunt for Red October”, “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” and “The Untouchables”. He won an Oscar for best supporting actor in 1988 for the latter. During his career, he won two more BAFTAs and also three Golden Globes. And in 2000, the actor was knighted by the British Queen and was therefore allowed to call himself ‘sir’.
Connery was married twice: first to the Australian actress Diane Cilento and then to the French-Moroccan painter Micheline Roquebrune. He has one son, Jason Connery, who is also an actor. In August Connery celebrated his 90th birthday.
