The Hogwarts Express – one of the UK’s most iconic railways – is facing closure.
The traditional train that Harry Potter and other characters used to travel to school is known as the Jacobite Steam Train. West Coast Railway (WCR) operators have to follow some strict safety rules.
WCR’s old Jacobite locomotive does not comply with Office of Rail and Road (ORR) door locking regulations. Britain’s rail system regulator requires carriage doors to be fitted with a central lock – an upgrade which the company complains would be too expensive.
This could mean no Jacobite trips on the stunning Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland from March next year.
