iciHaiti – Japan : Donation of 6.3 million dollars for health and safety

On Friday, December 23, 2022, in New York, Japan and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) signed two exchanges of notes for the implementation of two projects to be carried out as part of the government’s non-repayable aid Japan through UNDP – Haiti.
The total amount of these two projects amounts to 838 million Japanese yen, or ±6.3 million US dollars. This endowment will allow the government of Haiti to address the problems related to the damage caused by the earthquake in terms of health and police infrastructure in the departments of South and Nippes.
In the amount of 396 million yen (or ± 3 million US dollars), the first project, entitled “Project for the Reconstruction of Health Facilities in the Southern Peninsula”, aims to rehabilitate medical buildings destroyed or damaged by the earthquake.August 14, 2021 , the supply of medical equipment and the development of capacities for rapid response to emergencies. The rehabilitation of these health centers will facilitate access to health care while helping to improve the hygienic conditions of the affected population.
The second project, entitled “Supporting the Haitian National Police in the Commune of Miragôane” financed with 442 million JPY (or ± 3.3 million USD), aims to rehabilitate local police buildings damaged by the earthquake of August 14, 2021 as well as Hurricane Grace of the same year. This project will help improve the working environment of police officers and strengthen the operational capacity of the Haiti National Police (PNH).
