ICF and General Directorate of Tourism Launch 40 Million Euros Financing Program for Sustainable Tourism Projects

The ICF will allocate 40 million euros to this line of loans and the General Directorate of Tourism contributes 5.6 million euros to a fund that will serve to subsidize 2% of the interest rate.

The resources to subsidize interest come from the collection of the Tax on stays in tourist establishments.

The objective of this line of financing is to make it easier for hotels, tourist establishments, campsites and rural tourism establishments to carry out works and reforms in accessibility, expansion of facilities, energy efficiency improvements and, in particular, actions aimed at improving water management.

The General Director of Tourism, Marta Domènechexplained that “we know that the tourism sector has been doing a good job in water management for a long time, but now it is necessary to go a step further”.

“In addition to raising awareness among customers, it is necessary to make an effort to further increase the application of measures to reduce and reuse water,” he added.

From the Executive, the maximum commitment is requested from all sectors, including tourism. And, in this sense, Domènech has assured that “we want to continue accompanying our companies to accelerate these changes in terms of reducing water consumption”.

Catalonia and sustainable development

For his part, Vanessa Servera, CEO of the ICFpoints out that “we are committed to sustainable development and we focus on financing projects that generate added value and that are committed to sustainability”.

The actions financed they will have to:

  • Include measures to reduce water consumption, guarantee future supply and improve the efficiency of water management, control and treatment processes by implementing water reduction, recirculation and reuse strategies.
  • The measures may include the installation of flow regulators, timed taps and waterproof coatings, and the implementation of rainwater harvesting systems and reuse circuits with chlorine treatment for swimming pools and ornamental lakes.

Among other requirements, the establishments that want to choose must be registered in the Tourism Registry of Catalonia, have its operational headquarters in Catalonia and be at least two years old.

The amount of the loans will fluctuate between 60,000 and four million euros, It is possible to finance 100% of the eligible actions.

Regarding the term, applicants may request the loan for a maximum of 10 years with the possibility of a grace period of up to two years.
