In the near future, the Icelandair airline will send two of its own baggage employees on flights from Iceland to Schiphol. The company hopes that this will make flight handling at Schiphol run more smoothly.

Due to staff shortages at baggage handlers and aviation companies, chaos has also arisen behind the scenes at Schiphol. Thousands of suitcases and pieces of luggage are piling up at the airport. They are even outside.

Icelandair has started flying baggage staff on flights from Keflavik International Airport (KEF) to Schiphol on Friday, writes NH News† For the time being, employees will be flying along this whole week to unload and load passengers’ suitcases at the Dutch airport.

A spokesperson for the airline says to the Icelandic news site: RUV “to do everything possible to avoid delays”. Stewards and flight attendants are also said to have helped speed up baggage handling.
