Jon Schaffer, guitarist for the US metal band Iced Earth, should according to the news channel „Indiana Public Media“ extradited to the police in Washington DC.
After the musician participated in the storming of the US Congress in early January, both the FBI and the police department in the US capital Washington DC were looking for him. Last week he finally turned himself in to the Indiana police, who have been holding the guitarist since then.
Schaffer has to answer for several crimes
Jon Schaffer has now been summoned to court several times in Indiana – and the court has now decided to transfer the 52-year-old to the “Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia” in Washington DC.
It is currently not known when exactly the delivery will be carried out. But what is certain is that Schaffner will soon have to answer for some crimes. He is not only accused of being part of the right-wing extremist group “Oath Keepers”, which is said to be behind the organization of the Capitol attack. He also faces a number of other crimes allegedly committed while storming the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Including: Knowingly entering or staying in a locked building without legal authority, disrupting the orderly conduct of government business, knowingly perpetrating physical violence against people or property in a locked building, violent entry and improper behavior in a government building, participation in an act of physical violence in a government building and parades, demonstrations or strikes in a government building.
Band members distanced themselves in a statement
What consequences Schaffer’s behavior will have for Iced Earth or his other bands Demons & Wizwards and Sons Of Liberty is unclear. Some of his colleagues distanced themselves from Schaffer in recently published statements, but so far no further consequences have followed.
