Ice Tigers drop two points in Krefeld – Ice Tigers

– New Year’s Eve means just one day off for ice hockey professionals – in the best case scenario. The Ice Tigers will not return to Nuremberg until early Friday anyway. After the game at 2: 3 (after extra time) in Krefeld with two points too few.

On Sunday, Schwenningen comes with last year’s Nürnberger Brett Pollock. On Tuesday, the Mannheimer Adler will introduce themselves, maybe then no longer with Pavel Gross. According to the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung, the head coach should be unvaccinated, which is why the infections in Mannheim and the infection of the Nuremberg co-trainer Manuel Kofler would have to be reassessed. And on Thursday the Augsburg panthers announced themselves in the arena. The new ice hockey year could hardly start better if only spectators were allowed.

And so the last game in 2021 did not offer any hope of improvement. In purely sporty terms, however, the trip to the empty Krefeld arena was enjoyed: With the 2: 3 (0: 1, 2: 0, 0: 1, 0: 1) the Ice Tigers did not succeed, the 4: 5 in Bietigheim shortly before Balance again on Christmas Eve.

What a parade!

Tom Rowe received three gifts after his contract extension: Chris Brown, Oliver Mebus and Nick Welsh were on the bus on Wednesday and were able to play again on Thursday after their injuries. The euphoria in the team lasted for five minutes, then Krefeld took over. The Ice Tigers were able to thank Alex Dubeau for making it 0-1 through Robert Sabolic (12th) after 20 minutes. The Canadian goalkeeper prevented Alexander Bergström from making it 2-0 with a spectacular dive through the goal area.

After the first change of sides, the balance of power changed. Nuremberg picked up the pace. Patrick Reimer completed a nice combination via Marcus Weber, Gregor MacLeod and Daniel Schmölz (32nd). When Tyler Sheehy made it 2-1, Krefeld’s goalkeeper was distracted by Marko Friedrich who was crossing (34th). A third goal, however, did not want to fall even after Julius Karrer’s shot in the post, in return Leon Niederberger equalized the game again (51.).

In extra time, Nuremberg’s pressure towards the end of the game no longer resulted in a goal. Krefeld only needed one attack in extra time, Reimer slipped, Lucas Lessio gave Dubeau no chance (61st). The new year continues – with interesting home games without a home advantage.
