Ice sculptures can be seen on the Post Island: Jelgava

On Monday, February 7, the territory of the Ice Sculpture Festival was organized. “Thanks to the tents that protected the sculptures from the weather, mainly direct sunlight and wind, which do the most damage to them, and the fact that this year the individual sculptures were made from one large block of ice, so they melt more slowly, the sculptures are doing relatively well have been preserved. On Monday, the individual sculptures from Jānis Čakste boulevard were transferred to the Post Island, where the team sculptures are also located in the tents. All sculptures will be available for viewing for a symbolic fee from Tuesday, as long as they can be enjoyed,” says the Development Planning and Project of the institution “Kultūra” head of the management sector Ivars Pirvics, adding that there are also photo sculptures left on the protruding platforms on J. Čakste boulevard, which will be fenced off for security reasons so that residents cannot climb on them, but they will be able to take photos.

The ice sculpture exhibition on the Post Island has been open since February 7 and can be visited every day from 12:00 to 19:00, as long as the weather permits. It should be noted that some sculptures are not under a canopy, so they are more exposed to the weather. Interested parties are invited not to postpone visiting the ice sculpture exhibition until the last moment.

The entrance fee for adults is 3 euros, pupils, students, pensioners and people with disabilities – 2 euros, children up to 7 years old – free of charge. You can buy an entrance ticket both in cash and with a bank card at the ticket office at the entrance to the exhibition area on the Post Island.

Residents should note that the Post Island behind the skating rink and the playground will still be closed for the duration of the sculpture viewing.

It should be reminded that the 24th International Ice Sculpture Festival took place in Jelgava from February 3 to 5. Visitors had the opportunity to view more than 65 ice art works on the theme “Ancient Deities” created by 30 world-renowned artists from 12 countries. 80 tons of artificially frozen ice were used in the creation of ice sculptures. Also, visitors could watch ice sculpture making demonstrations, enjoy concerts, shows and various attractions throughout the day.
