Dresden. What a shame. The Dresdner Eislöwen gambled away a 5-0 lead in the DEL 2 on Saturday at third in the table EHC Freiburg and went down 6-9. The gap to the last play-off place is still eight points. “Words fail me,” said a completely confused Eislöwen head coach Andreas Brockmann. “We started very well and are leading 5-0. Then once we weren’t consistent enough and Freiburg scores. We’ll come back with the sixth goal, but then we totally go away from what we wanted to play and completely give up the momentum. Plus the small squad today, and I don’t know whether our fitness is at the right level, ”he explains. That lets you see deeply. “I’m really speechless.” Brockmann can’t stay that long – his team has to go back to Heilbronn on Monday.
Meanwhile, the club made another groundbreaking decision on Friday and parted ways with its sports advisor Marco Stichnoth with immediate effect. The timing could be evidence that this step has been considered for a long time. The separation took place amicably – as is customary in the industry – and is the consequence of the currently unfortunate sporting situation. After the dismissal of head coach Rico Rossi at the end of last year, Stichnoth was already being discussed. After all, he and Rossi had put together the squad for this Corona season.
“In addition to the focus on reaching the play-offs, it is also about planning the coming season. Unfortunately, we had different opinions about the sporting direction ”, Maik Walsdorf, the club’s commercial director, is quoted in the press release. Until further notice, he and Brockmann, who was signed up as head coach at the end of December, will be responsible for the squad planning. According to a decision by the league shareholders, no club can relegate from the DEL2 this season, an exception rule in Corona times.
