You are an ardent candidate for the post of Czech goalkeeper number one for the World Cup. Do you have it in your head?
I would not formulate who is a clear number one, who is not … We go there three goalkeepers and we will try to make the team as far as possible with our performances. Am I the most experienced? It will still depend on how I catch matches.
Roman Will and Petr Kváča are also in the team with you. How do you deal with them?
Perfect! They’re both great guys. We sit next to each other in the cabin. Among us is Radan Lenc, who must always be close to the goalkeepers. I think that Radan is the most satisfied, because he is sitting between two Liberečáky (smile). We tell him that he is such a goalkeeper among the attackers.

We’ve already checked the masks to see if we have all the commas that symbolize us. It’s great that we’re here and we did it. We will definitely count the interventions from the national team as well. (smile)
Not one of the goalkeeper’s trio is very seasoned on the international stage. Can it play a role in Riga?
Of course, the MS is something completely different, but I would say that the gate is as big as the size of the puck. There will be a lot of players from Russia and the NHL, there is a difference in terms of performance, but we will also have an even stronger team at the World Cup than it is here now.

What do you say to the emerging staff for the World Cup?
I’ve been playing hockey for so long that it’s very tricky to draw conclusions about what the lineup is. When I thought in the past that she was strong, I won. But when I thought she was weak, she also won (smile). And the opposite was true.
At the World Championships in Bratislava two years ago, the “Litvínov” group Pavel Francouz, coach Zdeněk Orct met in the goalkeeper team … Robert Reichel was also the assistant coach. Do you feel that now he is more of a “Liberec” national team?
I don’t see it that way. It doesn’t matter who plays for which team. The important thing is what the boys are like, that’s the most important thing to me.

Did you watch Czech goalkeepers in the NHL during the season, who could possibly strengthen the team at the World Cup?
I didn’t look at this. In the morning, recordings of the match were running in our locker room, one likes to look at it. But otherwise I wasn’t interested in it. I don’t deal with things I can’t control. I was just waiting for it to turn out.
Up to 1,000 fans can come to the Czech Games at the O2 Games in Prague, which is a very pleasant finding. Do you have any news if they will be in Riga as well?
I don’t have any, but the audience should be there for me. I am very happy that when we finished the season, the winters were almost 100% full. Hockey without people is weird, it’s different with them. After each goal, there is a rumble that can further arouse the player. Such a chill in the back … It’s beautiful for hockey for players and spectators themselves.
What do you say about the opponent in the basic group of the World Cup?
We have a letter at the beginning – the Russians. But hard to make trials before the tournament and comment on opponents. There is no weak team that can be underestimated.
