Ice HockeyThe 3000th Swiss NHL point is for Janis Moser
The Bernese defender from Arizona was credited with two assists in his team’s defeat to Pittsburgh (6-2). A production that has allowed Swiss hockey to reach a symbolic plateau.
Janis Moser (22) reached a symbolic plateau on the night between Thursday and Friday, when ten games were on the NHL championship poster. At the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, where the Penguins beat Arizona (6-2), Bernese defender Coyotes was awarded two assists. His second contribution (a 4-2 assist assigned to Ontario left winger Nick Ritchie on power play) was synonymous with the 3000th point for a Swiss player in the regular season of the North American professional league.
This statistic does not take into account binational hockey players who did not grow up in the Swiss training system (example: defender Kenneth Baumgartner or forward Cody Almond) and foreign skaters who only possess a Swiss playing license (example: striker Mason McTavish).
22 years after Reto von Arx
The first point picked up by a Swiss was on 7 October 2000. That evening, Bernese center Reto von Arx, wearing the Chicago Blackhawks jersey, had amassed two assists against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
22 years later, Janis Moser collected this 3000th point in the 7430th official match delivered by a Swiss skater on one of the NHL tracks.
33 players contributed
Six hockey players particularly contributed to the promotion of Swiss production: Bernese Nashville defender Roman Josi (543 points), former Bernese full-back from Montreal, New York Islanders, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Mark Streit (434), New Yorkers Islanders, Minnesota, Carolina and Nashville winger Nino Niederreiter (371), Nashville, Minnesota and Los Angeles San Gallo winger Kevin Fiala (283), San Jose Appenzell winger Timo Meier (265) and center of New Jersey Valais Nico Hischier (206).
In total, 33 professionals, including five goalkeepers, have scratched the scoreboard at least once.
