Salzburg landed perhaps the most important victory to be at the front at the end of the basic round. Another decisive factor for the hosts was goalie Jean-Philippe Lamoureux, the American held up well against his ex-club. John Hughes made early 1-0 (5th), but Ty Loney (14th / PP) and Ali Wukovits (19th) turned the game in the first third. The equalization of Connor Brickley (39.) at the end of the middle third was trend-setting for Salzburg. Ultimately, Huber scored after 3:11 minutes of extra time.
“This win was incredibly important to us, it was really close,” said the match winner. Lamoureux argued similarly: “The whole match was close, it could have gone in the other direction.” Caps striker Sondre Olden pointed out that his team was too inefficient in the power play. Coach Dave Cameron knew the reason for this: “We had chances, but Lamoureux held up well.” Salzburg coach Matt MacIlvane gave special praise for the goalie.
KAC moves to third place
The other games of the 38th round were overshadowed by the top game, but were also of some importance for the table. The KAC rear-end Dornbirn inflicted the second home defeat in a row with a 3: 0 after the Vorarlberg team had previously won three matches on their own ice cream en suite. However, it took a while before the Klagenfurter wrote. Daniel Obersteiner (26.) broke the spell, Manuel Geier (36./PP) and Lukas Haudum (55.) followed. The KAC moved from sixth to third place in the table.
