He was born in Leksand and has represented both Färjestad and IK Oskarshamn.

Now the Norwegian hockey player Alexander Reichenberg is dead.

– You feel the physical sadness when a guy of only 31 years old dies so early, says Norway’s former national team captain Roy Johansen.

Norwegian ice hockey has grief.

Alexander Reichenberg, who played the Olympics for Norway in South Korea in 2018 and for several seasons was a big profile for hockey in the country, is dead.

Became 31 years old

On Sunday afternoon, his club, Lillehammer, communicated the news of his passing in consultation with the family.

“It is with great sadness that Lillehammer Ice Hockey Club today received the news of Alexander Reichenberg’s passing. Rest in Peace, No. 61. You will always be remembered as an artist. Our thoughts and condolences go out to family, girlfriend and teammates”, they write.

In the same communique, Lillehammer describes painting that people will always remember him.

“It is incredibly sad to think that he will never get to hear the tactful cheers of the crowd in Eidsiva Arena and that we who sat in the stands will not get to see the player with the big smile, the extra feint or the rock-hard shot from the drawing circle in the power play again”

He was 31 years old.

– Unbelievably sad news, I got to know “Reich” through the national team. I will remember him as happy, positive and a nice guy outside. On his best day, he was a player with an internationally high standard on the ice, says national team colleague Patrick Thoresen.

Swedish parents

Reichenberg was born in Leksand where his Swedish father Ronny played. The mother is also Swedish.

Alexander Reichenberg represented both Färjestad and IK Oskarshamn during his career.

– Unbelievably boring, you feel it in your whole body. Fantastic hockey player who came home to Lillehammer and had a really good season this year. I heard he had offers from several clubs in Europe. Terribly sad and sad, says Norway’s former national team captain Roy Johansen, who now coaches Frisk Asker.

– He was in the national team several times and had a good career, everyone knows him as a positive guy. You feel the physical grief when a guy of only 31 years old dies so early. An outgoing person and great hockey talent. There is definitely great sadness in Hockey Norway, says Johansen.

In total, there were eleven seasons in the parent club Lillehammer, which he returned to in 2021. Last season, Reichenberg accounted for 46 points, 21+25, in 45 games.
