Ice hockey – Neuss – ghost games in DEL: Mannheim missed top of the table – sport

Mannheim (AP) – The Adler Mannheim have missed the return to the top of the German ice hockey league in the ghost game in the SAP arena. After two wins in a row against front-runner EHC Red Bull Munich, the team of coach Pavel Gross suffered a heavy defeat on Sunday and lost to runner-up Grizzlys Wolfsburg 3: 7 (1: 5, 1: 1, 1: 1). After 13 minutes it was 0: 4. Mannheim remains second with 49 points. Although Munich only played 45 points, they also played three games less and therefore have the best points quotient in the DEL.

Because of the new Corona regulation in Baden-Württemberg, the game took place without spectators as did that of the Schwenninger Wild Wings against the Eisbären Berlin, which the champions from the capital won 4-0 (2-0, 2-0, 0: 0) decided for itself. According to the regulation, up to 750 spectators would have been allowed, but both hosts completely waived visitors.

The Swabian Bietigheim Steelers also wanted to play against the Krefeld Pinguine without a spectator in the evening, and no fans were allowed for the game Nürnberg Ice Tigers against the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven due to the Bavarian Corona regulation. The game of Straubing Tigers against Munich had been postponed to March 16 because of several corona cases with the hosts. In another game, the Düsseldorfer EG lost 3: 4 (0: 2, 2: 0, 1: 2) against the Augsburg Panthers in front of 5000 spectators.
