ICE Hockey League: Capitals objection against 0: 5, departure in Linz – winter sports – ice hockey

On Wednesday, the Vienna Capitals filed an appeal against the 0:5 rating of the canceled game against VSV.

According to the “Kurier”, the Viennese justify that, according to the medical commission, the game in Ljubljana should have been canceled if there were five confirmed corona cases. At the start of the game, however, there were only four cases, and the fifth positive test result came after 10 p.m.

As a result, the Caps reported “unfit to play” for Sunday’s game against VSV on Saturday. The league argues, however, that the infection rate has not increased significantly and that the capital club could have provided a team with its operational squad of 40 players (including the farm team).

ICE Managing Director Christian Feichtinger defends himself against the sharp criticism from the Viennese: “I reject in the strongest terms accusing us of not paying attention to the health of the players.”

The puck now rests with the permanent independent tribunal, to which the Capitals will provide additional documentation. As the Viennese noted on Thursday, they have two variants to choose from: either the game is rescheduled or not played. In the second case, the match would not be rated in the table.

Striker leaves Black Wings Linz

While the Viennese are in a clinch with the league and feel strongly disadvantaged in the fight for a direct playoff place, the defeated ICE bottom light Black Wings Linz has already given up the season and announced the second departure within a few days.

After defender Maxim Lamarche, who joined Grenoble in the French Ligue Magnus, striker Colin Smith is also leaving the club. The 28-year-old German-Canadian was only signed last November and has played 16 games for the Stahlstadt team since then, scoring five goals and nine assists. Smith moves to Olten in the second Swiss division.

As the Upper Austrians reported in a press release, “further departures are no longer planned.”
