The Fischtown Pinguins have become the first pursuer of leaders Eisbären Berlin in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) with a win in Cologne.

Last year’s finalist from Bremerhaven won 3-1 against the Kölner Haien on Friday evening (November 15th, 2024) and climbed to second place in the DEL table with 33 points behind champions Berlin (37). After the German Cup break, the North Germans celebrated their tenth win in their 16th game in the league.

The Pinguins also benefited from ERC Ingolstadt’s slip-up, which lost 4:5 after extra time to the Nuremberg Ice Tigers. In doing so, veteran Daniel Pietta wrote his name into the DEL history books. The 37-year-old striker prepared Ingolstadt’s opening goal and recorded his 538th assist. In doing so, he broke the previous DEL record set by Robert Hock (537), who had previously achieved the most assists.

Straubing dupes Munich, Mannheim climbs

In the Bavarian duel, the Straubing Tigers outplayed the EHC Red Bull Munich in their home arena with 5:2 (2:2, 2:0, 1:0). The Adler Mannheim moved up to fourth place with a 6:2 (1:1, 2:0, 3:1) win against the Augsburg Panthers.

Bottom group DEG wins again

Bottom team Düsseldorfer EG was finally able to celebrate a sense of success again. With the 4:2 (1:1, 1:1, 2:0) at the Schwenninger Wild Wings, the Düsseldorf team achieved only their second three-point win of the season.
