The Eisbären Berlin extended their lead in the table on the 14th matchday of the DEL. Pursuer Ingolstadt dropped points against Frankfurt.
Leaders Eisbären Berlin have continued their winning streak in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The champions won a tremor against the Augsburg Panthers 3:2 (2:0, 1:0, 0:2), equaled the club record with their eleventh success in a row and extended their lead in the table.
Markus Niemeläinen, Marcel Noebels and Lean Bergmann ensured the narrow success with their goals. In front of 6,179 spectators in the sold-out Curt Frenzel Stadium, the Berliners dominated the match from the start and created a number of chances.
In the seventh minute, Niemeläinen gave the visitors a deserved lead after strong preparatory work from Ty Ronning, and Noebels increased the lead in the first third (16th). In the middle section, Bergmann increased the score to 3-0 (24th).
Things got exciting again in the final section after Mick Köhler shortened the score for Augsburg (42′). Cody Kunyk even scored the hosts’ late goal (58th), but the Berliners ultimately saved their success over time and are now eight points clear at the top of the table.
Because pursuers ERC Ingolstadt lost to Löwen Frankfurt on Thursday 2:3 (0:1, 1:1, 1:0, 0:1) after extra time. After a 0:2 after 30 minutes thanks to goals from Bokk and Brace, Ingolstadt came back and was able to equalize with goals from Simpson and Hüttl. But Reid McNeill (64′) made the decision in overtime.
Mannheim wins in the 10-goal game
Already in the afternoon, the Adler Mannheim got back on track after two bankruptcies. At the Grizzlys Wolfsburg, coach Dallas Eakins’ team won a high-scoring game 6:4 (1:1, 4:3, 1:0). For Wolfsburg it was the fifth defeat in a row.
The spectators saw a back and forth over 60 minutes with nine different goalscorers. Mannheim led 3:1 and 5:3, but still had to tremble in the last third. It was only the empty net goal from Finn Markus Hännikäinen 23 seconds before the end that secured the eighth win in the 14th game of the season.
