Frankfurt am Main (dpa / lhe) – Löwen Frankfurt have signed Canadian forward Carter Rowney ahead of the start of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) season. As announced by the DEL promotion on Monday, the 33-year-old hails from the Detroit Red Wings of the North American National Hockey League. He won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2016-17 season. The veteran played a total of 272 NHL games. Löwen Frankfurt debuts in DEL this Friday with Grizzlys Wolfsburg.

“We are very pleased to have succeeded in convincing a top-notch player like Carter Rowney of our vision here at the club,” said sporting director Franz-David Fritzmeier. “Carter will bring us a lot of extra stability and quality in all areas of our game, as well as providing vital support to our team on ice.” Carter will also bring “a lot of experience to our team, on and off the ice”.
