There have been many rumors surrounding Elias Pettersson, who has an expiring contract.
But now it is clear that he will remain in Vancouver. The club announces that the 25-year-old has signed a new eight-year contract.
– This is a very big day for me and my family. I am very happy to continue my career in Vancouver. I love this city and playing in front of the supporters, says Pettersson to the club’s website.
According to several consistent reports in North American media, the contract is worth 11.6 million dollars, around 120 million kroner, per season. That is, approximately SEK 960 million for eight years. The salary is not yet public.
Then he becomes the best paid Swede in the league as Erik Karlsson earns 11.5 million dollars per season. William Nylander will also make $11.5 million next season. Pettersson’s contract is also the fifth most expensive contract in the entire league per season.
Pettersson has scored 75 points, 29 goals and 46 assists, in 62 games this season.
