Ice HockeyDavos offers the scalp of Team Canada

For entry into the race for “its” Spengler Cup, the Grisons club achieved a prestigious victory against the reigning champion (2-1), beaten for the second time in two outings.

Davos started their Spengler Cup in an ideal way, winning the classic against Team Canada.

New focus

HC Davos has given its fans a nice Christmas present. In its first match of the Spengler Cup 2022, a competition organized on its soil, the Grisons club won against Team Canada (2-1), the reigning champion and most awarded team in the history of the tournament.

Surprised the day before by Sparta Prague (2-3), the Canadians should have turned this Tuesday evening. They sank each other down starting the match catastrophically. Andrew Rowe opened the scoring for the locals after 31 seconds of play and Leon Bristedt made the break with a stride (2nd). Brett Connolly, the HC Lugano winger who had already scored twice against the Czechs, reduced the score. But like the day before, Team Canada was unable to recover.

Davos make their debut in “their” Spengler Cup with fanfare and on Wednesday (20:15) they will play their second group match against Sparta Prague, with first place at stake. Team Canada, for its part, falls from above. Winners of four of the last five editions, the North Americans are sure to finish bottom of the group. They will then face the 2nd team of the other group. This time they will have no choice but to win if they want to keep their trophy.
