Ice and snow problems in Gardermoen: big delays

There are big delays at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen on Monday afternoon.

All arrivals until 5.30pm have been postponed, shows the Avinor website.

– There were difficult conditions with snow and ice all day. This is the reason for the delays we are experiencing now, Erik Lødding, head of public relations at Avinor, told VG.

Over 90 arrivals have been rescheduled. Among other things, a flight from Tromsø that was supposed to land at 10:45 was rescheduled to 14:52, more than four hours late.

Many of the departures from Gardermoen are also delayed.

– How many are traveling today?

– There aren’t many travelers today. Of course it is boring for those concerned. We are working at full capacity and all crews have to do what they can, says Lødding in Avinor.

– What is your advice for travellers?

– Our advice for travelers is to contact your airline and report as normal. You need to give yourself some extra time and be careful on the way both to and from the airport. Otherwise, you can check the updated information on Avinor’s website, she says.

They also experienced delays at Torp Sandefjord Airport due to bad weather.

– Although there are big challenges and demanding conditions, things are going very well in Torp. Lots of people are at work and all equipment is in use. We handle traffic well, says Tine Mathisen, head of marketing and communications.

This morning a Wizz Air flight from Gdansk was diverted to Gardermoen. Mathisen says they’ve had fewer than 10 delays to date, with the longest delay being around 45 minutes.
