The Hague –
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for two senior officers Russia. The orders relate to the war in Ukraine, including attacks targeting Ukraine’s electrical infrastructure.
Reported by AFP, Tuesday (5/3/2024), the two were Sergei Ivanovich Kobylash and Viktor Nikolayevich Sokolov, an army lieutenant general and a navy admiral. Both are suspected of committing war crimes between October 2022 and March 2023.
“Each is alleged to be responsible for war crimes by directing attacks against civilian targets and is also accused of crimes against humanity for inhumane acts,” the court said.
The ICC said there were reasonable grounds to believe that the two Russian generals were responsible for missile attacks on Ukraine’s electrical infrastructure from at least October 10, 2022 to at least March 9, 2023.
“During this time, there was an alleged campaign of attacks on power plants and substations, carried out by Russian armed forces in several locations in Ukraine,” the court said.
