ICA Supervises Vaccination Against Newcastle Disease in Nariño’s Border Area – May 24, 2023

In Nariño, the ICA carried out sampling and supervision of vaccination against Newcastle in the border area


Pasture, May 24, 2023: The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) supervised vaccination against Newcastle disease in backyard conglomerates located in the border area of ​​the department of Nariño.

Likewise, during this day, samples were taken from backyard birds located in the municipalities of Cumbal and Cuaspud, by means of cloacal swabs to detect and rule out the presence of avian and Newcastle influenza, officially controlled diseases in the territory. .



“With these activities we demonstrate the absence of the circulation of the Newcastle virus and avian influenza in birds in the department of Nariño, especially in the border area. The ICA continues to establish and guide small and medium-sized producers in the biosafety protocols that they must implement on their farms, in order to prevent or detect any related symptoms,” said Jorge Zambrano, ICA manager of the Nariño branch.

In active surveillance activities, sampling has been carried out for Newcastle of high pathogenicity and avian influenza, in 40 backyard plots, with 400 sampled birds.
