Forty-one-year-old Ibrahimovic started in the starting line-up of his team for the first time since January of last year, and in the added time of the first half, he got a penalty kick.
The first attempt was caught by the goalkeeper Marco Silvestri, but after a few minutes VAR ruled and the penalty was repeated due to the early movement of the home players into the penalty area. “Ibra” set up the ball for the second time and fired it under the crossbar.
The Swedish forward scored at the age of 41 years and 166 days, taking the scoring record from former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta.
Even his goal at 1:1 did not help AC to points, as Beto sent the hosts back into the lead in the first half and Kingsley Ehizibue decided in the 70th minute. “When a team plays like this, it means the coach didn’t do his job. We played below our level.” AC coach Stefano Pioli did not hide his disappointment.
His counterpart, Andrea Sottil, did not even last on the bench until the end of the first half, as AC did not keep his nerves in check after a repeated penalty and received a red card for protesting. However, his charges brought the duel to a successful end and claimed their first home triumph in the league since mid-September when they beat Inter 3:1.
“It’s a great win. We’re going through a tough time, but we’ve worked hard and we’ve earned it. We’re going in the right direction and we have to keep going. There are eleven games left and we believe in every opponent.” said midfielder Roberto Pereyra for Sky.
