Arrested in July in full training after a complaint from his companion, the defender of Niort Ibrahima Conté appealed against his sentence to one year in prison, including six months suspended for domestic violence and theft.

“The first instance judgment not having requested provisional execution, nor the start of the stay with probation, it will (now) be necessary to wait for the Poitiers Court of Appeal to rule”, said Niort public prosecutor Julien Wattebled, who said that the appeal had been lodged on Thursday.

The club refuses to comment
Two days after this suspensive appeal, the 24-year-old Guinean, who had missed two Championship matches after his conviction by the Niort Criminal Court on November 26, played the second period of the Chamois’ severe defeat in Auxerre (6-0 ). The club declined to comment on the situation of their player.

Conté was tried for violence against his partner and the theft of his phone and papers. At the hearing where the player, with a clean criminal record, was present as well as his companion, who had not brought a civil action, the public prosecutor had mentioned “usual” violence dating back to early 2018, when the player was still playing in Lorient.

He had also been sentenced to an obligation of work and care, and forbidden to come into contact with his partner and to appear at his home.
