IBM unveils the most powerful quantum computer

IBM introduced a quantum computer with a volume of 64. This makes the system the most powerful system available to users.

The researchers explained that a higher quantum volume expands the capabilities of the system. With such a high quantum volume, researchers can use computing to solve resource-intensive problems across a variety of industries.

In the future, IBM wants to continue to build the world’s most advanced quantum systems. In the past four years alone, IBM has made 28 quantum computers, 8 of which have appeared this year. Today’s enhanced system will be available on the IBM Q Network in upcoming releases and enhancements to the IBM Cloud software services, as well as the Qiskit cross-platform open source software development kit.

The IBM Q Network is a community of Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, start-ups and national research labs working with IBM to advance quantum computing. The network now has 115 clients, government groups, start-ups, general partners and university members, and has over 250,000 registered users of IBM’s quantum service.

Formerly scientists from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) developed a new “three-in-one” instrument that can simultaneously perform three types of measurements at the scale of atoms. Together, these measurements could open up new knowledge about a wide range of specialty materials that are critical to the development of next-generation quantum computers, communications, and a host of other applications.
