Iberojet announces flight between Barcelona and Santa Clara for 2025

The airline Iberojet announced that it was going to implement a new route between Barcelona, Spain, and Santa Clara, Cuba, starting in the middle of next year, although she warned that this would only be available for a few months.

According to the information shared by the Spanish airline, this route will be available from June 25, 2025, and will end on September 10 of the same year, a little less than two months .

The special medium It would be better He indicated that there would be a weekly frequency on this route and that it will be implemented to promote European tourism to the Greater Antilles.

For this, Iberojet will use a large-capacity Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, which has space for 388 passengers.

This flight will be executed between the Josep Tarradellas Airport, in Barcelona, and the International Airport ‘Abel Santamaría’, located in Santa Clara. When the new flight is activated, the airline will be able to say it is traveling to the Island from Lisbon, Madrid and Barcelona.

Currently, Iberojet flies seasonally to Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, and Cancún, Mexico, as well as maintaining a regular route to Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras.

The airline started its direct flights between Lisbon and Varadero in June this year, which will continue until this October. These routes operate during the “low season” of tourism to Cuba, when high summer temperatures keep visitors from Canada and Europe away.

While the Cuban government is trying to keep tourism to the Island alive with new routes focused on paradisiacal destinations, official figures show that the number of visitors has decreased this year compared to to 2023 records.

It seems that these numbers cannot rise despite the regime’s advertising campaigns and the discounts applied by hotel companies and travel agencies.

To reach the official goal proposed by the tourism authorities, the Island would have to attract 273,000 visitors per month in the rest of 2024, a number that seems out of reach.

Despite this recession, Castro’s government continues to prioritize investments in the construction of hotels and tourism infrastructure, while ordinary Cubans have to deal with an economic crisis that causes a lack of essential products. .
