Ibero-American Confederation of Family Medicine warns that Uruguay is experiencing a dangerous moment with the expansion of COVID-19

Jaqueline Ponzo is president of the Ibero-American Confederation of Family Medicine and also a specialist in epidemiology. He argued that our country is in a dangerous situation due to the exponential growth of the coronavirus, although he indicated that there are still possibilities to contain the multiplication of infections.

In an interview with Radio Montecarlo, Ponzo explained that Uruguay can currently reduce infections if it complies with the measures recommended by the Honorary Scientific Advisory Group (GACH) and encourages teleworking.

«It begins to happen that the diagnosis is not made in time, because we know that there are asymptomatic cases and that multiplies and then the epidemic begins to accelerate. This leaves us behind ”, the expert warned about the situation in Uruguay in relation to the growing number of infections.

The doctor, on the other hand, made sure that someone’s presumed positive contacts were also monitored and isolated until the test results of the patient or his own contact were known.

Asked about the types of outbreaks that are appearing in the country, Ponzo explained that there is confidence in neighborhood centers and that it is precisely there where the greatest transmission of the coronavirus occurs.

“When we go out, when we come into contact with people we do not know, we know that we must act, but when we are in a familiar and everyday environment we lower our guard,” he added.

Where we think we are sure that we are not sure; So taking good care of ourselves when we go out is the key to taking care of our loved ones, “he said.
