Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) said that the formation of the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) will have an immediate impact on the Indonesian economy from 2021-2023.
Deputy Minister I of BUMN Pahala Nugraha Mansury said the impact would be felt directly in Indonesia’s economic recovery after Covid-19.
“We hope that 2021-2023 will have an immediate impact because of the impact of post-Covid economic development in 2021-2023, so hopefully there will be direct development,” said Pahala in a virtual press conference for the establishment of Indonesia Battery Corporation, Friday (26/3/2021).
He said that in the early stages, PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM) would conduct a study with its potential partners for 6 months.
After that, the first phase of production will be carried out, but it is not in accordance with the development target of up to 190 GWh (giga watt hour).
According to him, this year development investment will also be carried out battery cell downstream and the investment is carried out directly from the four state-owned companies that will invest in the construction of the factory.
For the first phase, development will be carried out for the production of batteries with a capacity of 10 GWh-30 GWh. However, the increase will continue to be made in line with the number of partners that the IBC will collaborate with.
“If asked whether there will be an impact, there is, but it is not as big as what our common vision is up to 190 GWh, maybe initially low capacity, but apart from that, 6 months after this Antam and potential partners will conduct a study and after completion will do the development of the mining and do smelting facility, “he explained.
The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of BUMN, officially announced the formation of the IBC. The establishment of the IBC is a transformation of Indonesia’s progress going forward. The covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the process of accelerating the transformation towards the electric battery industry.
This holding company is a joint venture (JV) of four state-owned companies including PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Persero) / Inalum or MIND-ID, Antam, PT Pertamina (Persero) and PT PLN (Persero).
