Ibai recounts the Copa América on Twitch with Piqué

Spanish streamer Ibai became one of the most popular characters on the internet. So much so that Gerard Piqué chose him for a task that could change the way people consume sporting events. Kosmos, the Catalan footballer’s company, bought the rights to the Copa América to broadcast the games on Twitch in Spain. And Ibai is in charge of recounting them. As he did with previous matches, the streamer will narrate the Argentine National Team when, tomorrow night, he will face Bolivia. “You have to keep in mind that there are five hours of difference. A game that starts at 8:00 in Argentina, here it is already early morning, ”Matías Mestas, a journalist who lives in Spain, explained to PROFILE. However, that doesn’t stop viewers from going to Ibai’s Twitch channel to watch the games. On average, it has between 60 and 70 thousand people connected per meeting. “And being official, the quality of the image is good and it saves you from having to look for links that are cut off,” adds Mestas.

PROFILE contacted Kosmos for more details on the Twitch broadcasts and they indicated that it is only for the America’s Cup. “The opportunity arose and we saw that it was good to do something different and reach a younger audience. But at the moment we do not have in mind to replicate it ”, they indicated. What they do affirm is that the transmission of the final will take place from an amusement park and with the public in stands. “At night we will have fun in Port Aventura and at dawn we will broadcast the last meeting,” said Ibai, who has more than six million followers on Twitch and earns more than one hundred thousand euros a month with the platform. At the moment, this experience is only for Spain. Outside of that territory, the transmissions cannot be seen and they are not recorded either. In any case, the goal is to support a new format and take advantage of the popularity of one of the most watched streamers in the world to install it among teenagers and young audiences.
